This website has been primarily developed to assist Chemistry teachers and students in Victorian Secondary Schools by providing high-quality infrared, proton and 13C NMR spectra and mass spectra of a selection of molecules that can be downloaded and used in “Chemical Detectives”-style exercises.

This concept was first demonstrated using a LabVIEW “front panel” to display sets of spectra of unknown compounds at the STAV Chemistry conference held at LaTrobe University in February 2008.  Generous funding from the Chemistry Education Association has allowed the project to continue through 2008, with the database now having expanded to contain over 100 compounds.

To use the software you will need to download the LabVIEW Run-Time engine,  the executable version of the ChemicalDetectives software and its associated spectral database.
